By CARLY CANSECO and OWEN LEE
While most teams’ E/A occurs only once a season, the boys’ varsity hockey game will play Andover twice, with their most recent match against them occurring on Saturday, Jan. 18th, away at Andover. The game culminated in a thrilling overtime 3-2 win, with senior Max Lowe scoring in the first period, upper Cam Fiascarno scoring in the second on a breakaway, and during the overtime period, senior Will Cavanaugh scored the game-winning goal with four seconds left in overtime, leaving the score at 3-2 and clutching the win in this intense game.
Upper Brendan McCarthy described the intense preparations before the game. “The day before, we did a controlled scrimmage, which really helped with working on different situations for the game. We focused a lot on potential circumstances that would come across, and that really paid off. The energy was amazing this game, we all did our best to have our teammates’ backs and pump each other up.”
A notable player in this game was goalie Brendan Petraco, who saved a total of 34 goals and significantly contributed to the team’s close win in this game.
Their victory shows their hours of hard work and dedication. Senior Luke Gurkan reflected on their training: “We had practices every day, and this week, we paid attention to our power play. The practices were also super intense.”
