2/13/25 Highlight: Boys’ Varsity Basketball
By LYDIA KUHNERT and ARJUN VELAN
On Wed., Feb. 5, boys’ varsity basketball played in a thrilling match against St. Paul’s School, claiming the win by a single point in overtime. The final score was 66–65, extending their season’s winning streak.
As the clock slowly ticked down, Big Red was behind by a single point. However, with eight seconds left on the clock, senior Ryder Frost scored a two-pointer, making for one of the closest games of the season so far. Athletes of the basketball team provided their thoughts and insights from the game.
Senior Luke Soden reflected on the match as a whole, saying, “As a team, we defended well. Tyler got hurt and we had to replace him offensively, but we just stayed composed the whole time and fought through it in the end.”
Lower Jayden Duvurne also praised his teammates for both their skill and teamwork: “Luke really stepped up in that game and had a great performance. Max Albinson manned our point guard position for the rest of the game, so he is someone I want to shout out.”
However well the team plays, they always have something to keep working on. “I think just defensive rebounding and not letting the other team get the offense rebound [is what what we should focus on] — limiting them to one shot,” Soden discussed.
This season, the boys’ varsity basketball team has been largely victorious and holds an impressive record of 15-1. We cannot wait to see what comes next from these talented players — hopefully, a victory over Andover on March 1!
Big Red will also compete against Deerfield on Saturday, Feb. 15. Make sure to come out and support the team in what is sure to be an impressive game.
