2/06/25 Highlight: Boys’ Varsity Basketball

By  ELLINA KIM and AARYAN PATEL

On Wednesday, Jan. 29, Exeter boys’ varsity basketball had an impressive victory against Belmont Hill, with a score of 65-49. This win continues Big Red’s notable season, adding to their 13th consecutive winning streak.

The season, though undefeated, has consisted of some close games and challenges along the way. Senior and captain Tyler Bike explained, “Early on a couple of us got into foul trouble which isn’t always ideal, but we had guys come into the game and step up which was huge.”

Despite these early troubles, the team continued to play aggressive defense and intense offense the entire game, resulting in a dominant win.

Bike described the ways everyone on the team showed up to pull together a win. “Everyone is leading in their own ways, and, as a group, we do a good job of holding one another accountable. Having an entire team that can do that is very effective.”

As the season begins to wrap up, Bike said he looks forward “to continue to improve and take it day by day, and also to enjoy the last few weeks we have together as a group.”

Big Red, the defending NEPSAC Class A champions, is currently ranked No. 2 in the nation in the latest rankings released by New England Prep School Basketball. The team will continue to sharpen up as they inch towards the annual Exeter-Andover match and the following championship tournament. Next, the team will continue with a home game against SPS at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8. Go support this impressive Big Red team in their championship pursuit!
