1/30/25 Highlight: Varsity Wrestling

By ARYAN AGARWAL and ELLINA KIM

On Saturday, Jan. 18, the varsity wrestling team participated in a competitive and exciting dual against The Hotchkiss School. Exeter wrestling has an overall record of eight wins and nine losses. After an impressive showing on Saturday, they ultimately fell short to Hotchkiss in a loss of 36-42.

Prep Avni Murarka reflected on her favorite parts of the meet. “The most memorable part was probably watching so many schools come together and wrestle. There is a certain energy that comes from that, especially in tough matches, where everyone is cheering and involved in the match.”

Murarka expressed some of the challenges of the dual. “For this tournament, we had a lot of wrestlers out with injuries and sickness which was probably the biggest issue, as this meant we had to issue forfeits in a lot of weight classes which lost us 6 points.”

Despite the challenges, Murarka complimented the team on their tenacity and determination. “The wrestlers on the mat did a great job of showing up and getting work done, and even if the end result didn’t go our way, it was a good day of wrestling.”

Murarka shouted out her teammate, lower Ting Ting Hsiech. “[I love] watching my teammate Ting Ting wrestle. She’s amazing!”

Varsity wrestling’s next dual is on Feb. 1 at Hyde School. Make sure to go out and support Big Red wrestling!
