On Wednesday, Oct. 23, the varsity field hockey team put on a strong showing, with a 2-2 tie at Kimball Union Academy (KUA). Wednesday’s match was a great comeback from last week’s 2-5 loss to Brooks School, as they return to the form they had exhibited during their three-game winning streak earlier in the season.
“Some of us came into the game thinking we would win from seeing their record,” lower Bea Doeringer said. “However, it was actually a really close game, so I think we were all a little on edge, but we did our best.
Despite the surprise performance from KUA, Exeter battled hard, especially in overtime. Standout performances were displayed by Izzy Racho and Lindsay Rogers. “Izzy Racho had a great breakaway up the field in the last quarter and Lindsay Rogers did some amazing defense in overtime,” Doeringer said.
She continued, “Obviously, a tie was not ideal but much better than a loss. We will keep moving forward and focus on future games.”
As they continue into the latter half of the season, the team is focusing on the upcoming playoffs. “I don’t think this game will affect if we make the playoffs too much. But the tie we ended with means we must stay positive for the rest of the season and keep putting in 100 percent effort for the next games coming up.”
Big Red now sits with a record of 4-5-2 on the season. After a tight loss to St. Pauls this Saturday, the team will stay home on Wednesday to play Holderness before traveling to Brewster Academy next Saturday.
