10/24/24 Highlight: Girls’ Varsity Soccer

This week, Girls’ Varsity Soccer had an important week as they hit the halfway mark of their season. They spent their week not only refining the team’s skills on the field but also for fostering strong bonds with one another.
Looking forward to the second half of the soccer season, senior and captain Aubrey Silvestri commented, “The team is working hard not only to secure our title, but to have a community that no other team has. We are doing phenomenal.”
The team remains high in their hopes for the upcoming games of the season. Prep Laurel Van De Water commented, “A personal goal of mine for this season is to keep composure under pressure and find the correct path. In addition, I can’t wait to see not only myself but the team grow and change as the season comes to an end.”
An example of this community was the team’s Tuesday practice. The team participated in a pumpkin carving competition and were treated to fall snacks. After being told that they were going on a four mile recovery run, the team was surprised with the fun activities.
“Everyone had an amazing time, and it was super cool when everyone unveiled their creations at the end,” Van De Water noted.
Coach Alia Haskins added, “I think having a fun practice like this was so important during such a busy time in the term. (The winning pumpkin was Mike Wazowski).”
The team has also provided a warm welcome to the lowerclassmen, with more seasoned players offering guidance towards the younger players.
“As a prep this year, it’s been amazing getting to know some of the older players on the team and having them share their experience to make me a better player and teammate,” Van De Water said.
The team has been finding success on the field, too. On Wednesday, they played an away game at Kimball Union. It was a draw, improving on last year’s loss. The team walked away happy with their result, taking home a clean sheet after conceding five goals to the same team last year.
Girls Varsity Soccer is looking forward to playing Deerfield at home next. As the game will be at home during family weekend, the team hopes to draw many supporters to the stands.
Coach Haskins added that the team “will still prioritize playing out of the back and finding our wingers, but we will focus a bit more on keeping our defensive line compact. It should be a really fast paced game!”
