Someone You Should Know: Buddy

If you don’t know Buddy the Dog ’16, you probably should. He is very involved on campus, and some might call him the model Exonian. He is on boat one for crew, plays varsity basketball, is on JV football and is a Mock Trial captain, Business Club cohead and regularly writes for the news section of The Exonian. He also founded two of his own clubs, ESSO Learn to Fetch and Kennel Club. A member of JV football said, “He’s a great running back in football, dodging and weaving all the way to the endzone with the football in his mouth. The only reason he didn’t make varsity was because he is always too friendly to seriously play defense. He kind of just runs them down and wags his tail, accompanying them all the way to the endzone.”

Buddy also excels at Exeter academics. Not only does he have an 11.0 GPA, beating out even the class of ’17, but he has also won a Negley, Least Likely to Cut Me Off At the Harkness Table Award, and every language award. “He’s not even a jerk about his intelligence,” said one of his classmates, “and that’s not something I’ve ever seen at Exeter.”

But besides all of his Exeter accomplishments, he has had quite a life of adventure outside of school. Last summer, he did volunteer work with the Humane Society, doing mostly accounting, but some human resources work, and eventually left  because he saw a squirrel and got distracted.

He is probably most known around campus for the positive impact he has had on the people around him. Upper Antigone Clark says, “Buddy always brightens my mood when I see him. He always looks so happy, especially when his tongue is hanging out. When I get to pet him, it always cheers me up. Great guy, realest in all of Exeter.”

Buddy is currently committed early action to Barkvard and everyone will miss his presence on campus.

Since Buddy is a much loved, successful Exonian, we asked him if he had any advice. He told us, “Woof woof, bark woof,” which are words I think we can all live by.
