The Stratford Style Guide: Issue iv, Volume I

As Godney once said, "You always have to bring the new, something new and fresh and that’s what I did. Everything is really different and elaborated, and it’s very intricate and different." For those of you who are not well-versed in the popular culture of 2001, the Godney we are referring to is none other than the pre-2007 Britney Spears. Godney and her then (cry) boyfriend, Justin Timberlake, blessed us with not only their iconic relationship but with multiple matching ensembles throughout the era. While we realize that Godney has told her followers to "bring the new," we here at thestratfordstyleguide could not help but experience divine inspiration from her (and JT’s) past fashion successes. Their "different and elaborated" looks not only made statements during their reign as America’s power couple, but transcended both time and distance as we sit on a couch in 2014 Britain. We know our custom here is to discuss the looks of others because we would never want to steal the spotlight. It must be so hard for our loyal fans to not know in elaborated detail how their Chic Creators dress on a daily basis. In a gracious deliverance to you mortal beings, we have dedicated this issue to ourselves (and to our stylish inspirations Godney and JT). Throughout our time here on the Farm, we have found that our spirits are subconsciously drawn to Britney and JT inspired coordination. It’s like the last thirteen and a half years haven’t even happened! Below are two examples of candid coincidences where we have experienced our spiritual connection to two of our patron saints of style. 1. Denim on denim is back this season--and for every season. This classic look from the 2001 AMAs has truly survived the test of time. This past summer we witnessed a terrible incident at the MTV VMAs in which Katy Perry and Riff Raff attempted to recreate Godney and JT’s electrifying ensemble. While they depicted an unfortunate representation of the outfits, us authors of thestratfordstyleguide pulled off an almost identical display of style to Godney and JT.   2. While surfing the World Wide Web for photos for our shrine, we stumbled upon one photo that was weirdly similar to staple pieces in each of our wardrobes. Cornelia Smith ‘15 can often be seen lounging in our heat-less cottage wearing nothing but hiking socks and this fluffy white sweater. While Cornelia Smith ‘15 utilizes the brighter side of vestments, Katie Casado ‘15 has yet to wear a piece of clothing that is not black. Katie Casado ‘15 really thinks black brings out her sparkling personality and killer eyebrows.   You are welcome in advance for this very special issue.
