The Stratford Style Guide: Issue iii, Volume I
Saations, fashion lovers!
We're sorry for the absence last week, as we were busy traveling and "doing work" for our "classes" while we've been abroad. As our loyal fans, you'd never want to miss any of our fashion advice, so we thought we'd bless you with the article you would've received last week had we been more on top of ourselves.
Last week's piece of fashion gospel came to you from the hometown of British poet William Wordsworth. We were at a cafe surrounded by rolling, grassy hills and smiling sheep. Shout-out to Cornelia's parents who have mailed her a cool new Nikon (thanks Mindy and Dwight). Expect high quality profile pictures of the Stratford kids and super edgy/filtered Instagram videos of said smiling sheep.
Most of our sheep footage comes from a hike up a sort of mountain. As our group crawled up the rocky hillside of Helm Crag, we were surprised to find that this gaggle of sweaty and panting teens could reach the top while still remaining super fashion forward. Because we couldn’t pick just one person to highlight for this week’s issue, we thought we’d give you a run down of our top five faves. (In order of pretty swag to Karl Lagerfeld at Paris Fashion Week.)
5. Straying from the basic, Augustus Gilchrist ‘15, asserted his unique ruggedness by opting out of the classic 1460 Doc Martens, instead sporting the casual Edan boot for his jaunt up the mountain. Between the rugged leather protecting his feet and the promises of a beard dusting his neck and pronounced chin, this future L.L.Bean boyfriend had us all struggling over which view we wanted to Instagram more.
4. During our trek we noticed that we weren’t the only ones keeping up with the fashionistas back at Exeter. Zoe Meyer ‘15, inspired us all with her fresh take on last week’s Trendwatch article as her bold layering of gray tweed shorts over opaque black leggings really showed us how looks can be great for both the classroom and eight mile hikes.
3. Speaking of statement outfits, we adored Hannah Sessler ‘15, as she leaped over rocks and streams with the grace and freedom of the birds printed on her blue dress. With a pair of gray leggings and Bean Boots, Hannah’s outfit said, “I’m on a three day trip to the Lake District and I forgot all my pants.” One might not think that a dress would be suitable for a hike, but this gal truly knew that style can be both fashionable and functional.
2. We can’t get enough of Mark Oet ‘15. While his outfit last week had us wanting a second helping of Mark, he showed us that less can certainly be more. During our hike, Mark took a minimalist approach to his outerwear, electing to throw on a gray Phillips Exeter hoodie and patterned hat. The thought of his home back in New Hampshire and his cool school swag were enough to keep this constantly stylish senior warm (and fashionably cool) enough to reach the peak of Helm Crag.
1. Topping our list of hiking high fashion is Mr. Miller for his stunning choice of accessories. Protecting himself from the cool breezes, Mr. Miller was a walking #TBT in his tweed newsboy cap. The cap was complementary to both his facial hair and his poetic aura. While some might think poets are just good for their words, Mr. Miller proved to us that aesthetic can translate both on and off the page.
Please stay tuned for next week when we will describe more unique fashion trends embraced by cool Exeter teens (and Mr. Miller).
Love,
