2/06/25 Highlight: Indoor Track and Field

On Jan. 25, Exeter’s indoor track and field team competed in an NHWTL meet with seven different schools from all over New Hampshire. Our athletes competed with passion and vigor, and Exeter won five events.
In this meet, the track moved especially fast, with many of our athletes breaking new personal records. For example, senior Jannah Maguire, team captain, broke her 300m record with a time of 41.90 and her 55m record with a time of 7.69, “I was really happy with the meet. Running two PRs felt really good, and I think at this meet our team really performed. We had lots of PRs and people really put their all into the races, which was really good to see.”
Adding on, senior Gianna Phipps, who set her personal record in the 55m with a time of 7.36 and won the 600m dash, said, “It was my first 55 of this season, which went really well with the PR. My 600 was a little bit harder. Coming right off of that first 55 I really focused on getting into that 600 mentality — I was preparing to endure the race and push through what I would consider a hard event for me. Although it was pretty difficult, I think I still came up pretty well.”
Following this meeting, the team had a lot ahead. The following Wednesday, they would compete in Tri-Meet with the Falmouth school. The week was particularly busy for the varsity runners, who would head to Boston the following Friday and Saturday to compete at the John Thomas Terrier Classic.
Phipps reflected, stating, “I think we’re on a path to just success, and hopefully, we can stay on this track. I’m really looking forward to the coming races, and I’m hoping we can see a lot of achievements from the team.”
