On Wednesday, Feb. 12, the boys’ varsity squash team traveled to Brookline, MA., and defeated Dexter Southfield School 4-2. The squad improved its match record to 7-5 and continued its two-game winning streak.

“Overall, the match went well,” lower Ryan Wang expressed. “Some of us weren’t playing as well as we usually were, but in the end, we worked hard and were able to get the win.”

“We didn’t face many hurdles that day because we followed our normal strategy,” lower Minghan Zou explained. “We were watching the other team’s players and their strategies, and then we gave our teammates feedback and advice.”

Wang recalled, “The best part of the match was some of us watching Byran’s very exciting game, where he eventually won in a hard-fought match to 5.”

The team’s captains played an important role in their performance. Zou explained, “Both captains gave words of wisdom before the match started and chanted. This really made the matches feel more team-like rather than individual games.”

Alongside the captains, the team has continually been supported by parents. Wang shared, “Another amazing part of all of our matches has been the parent catering. Every match, parents show up and bring us food and drinks, and we are so grateful for them.”

Zou concluded that as the season ends, “We are all looking forward to E/a.”

The team has a break until its next match, and some top-performing athletes will compete in the High School Nationals tournament, which will be held in Philadelphia, PA, from Feb. 21 to Feb. 23.
