This past Wednesday, the Indoor Track & Field team competed against tough competition in the Prep School Meet, facing off against Andover, Austin Prep, Governor’s, and other strong programs. The meet was filled with intense races, new personal records, and amazing overall performances.
For many athletes, the meet was both a test of their skill and an opportunity to see how they measured up against some of the best runners from prep schools. Sam Fisher, a prep, reflected on the event, “It was fun. I liked watching my friends compete, and everyone did really well. It was interesting watching the other prep schools.” While Fisher felt he could have performed better personally, he emphasized that the team excelled, particularly in the 300m and 400m races.
One of the biggest highlights of the meet came from Alex Harwich, who broke his own prep record for the third time. His dominance in hurdles and his drastic improvement make him one of the team’s standout preps. Annabelle Jordan also praised his performance, adding, “Alex did really well on hurdles.”
Charlie Kim, who competed in the 55m race, was proud of achieving her goal of running under eight seconds, a big personal accomplishment. She also acknowledged the level of competition, even stating: “That one girl from Andover completely gapped me because she “teleports.” Despite the competition, Kim felt the team placed well overall and is optimistic about future meets.
Beyond the competition, the meet also reflected the teamwork and support among Exeter’s athletes. Jordan emphasized the team’s encouragement, stating that one of the team’s greatest strengths is “Cheering each other on and not giving up in the races.”
While she believes there is always room for even more support, she reflected very positively on the team.
With a competitive yet welcoming environment, the Indoor Track & Field team is bound to have an exciting season ahead. As Kim highlighted, “We have some really strong seniors and many promising lowerclassmen. The next season will be really good.”
