Girls’ Hockey Snags Win over Hebron Despite Poor Calls

The Big Red girls’ hockey team took on Hebron Academy this past Saturday and triumphed three goals to none. As Hebron was supposed to be one of their more challenging games this season, this win was invigorating and satisfying. Big Red now improves to 9-5-1 as they head into the last month of the regular season.

“Despite a few rough patches and five on threes against us, we were able to pull out a win.”

The game, however, did not come as easy as the score suggests. “The game was a bit rough due to all of the penalties we took in the second period, but luckily we killed them all without letting up a goal,” lower Katherine Dumoulin said. “Lexi Butler had one of the best games I’ve seen her play, and Bonnie had a great game, winning almost all of the face-offs she took.” Dumoulin also scored the opening and winning goal of the contest, which many of her teammates referred to as the prettiest goal of the season.

Exeter’s athletes felt that the game was poorly officiated. Upper Rachel Morse expressed the team’s frustration.

“Despite a few rough patches and five on threes against us, we were able to pull out a win.” Morse said. “Kat scored a nice rebound goal in the first that got our wheels going. Now we’-re preparing for a busy week with some important games.”

Even with the outrageous calls throughout the game, the girls were still able to grab a big win.

As a whole, the team played exceptionally well. There were outstanding goals, crisp tape to tape passes and a little “rough stuff” to add to everything. With both teams playing to win, there was no doubt that fans were in for a great game.

Senior Ann-Marie Messuri talked about the overall play of the team highlighting the key points.

“The game against Hebron was generally fast paced. The second period was rough because we took so many penalties, and it took away chances for us to score. Deziray and Kat both had amazing rebound goals, and Carly Perrault did an amazing job of holding the blue line. Overall, we were able to get our act together for the third and play our game.”

Looking ahead for Exeter girls’ hockey, Big Red will take on Noble & Greenough School on Friday night at Noble & Greenough and then face Buckingham Browne & Nichols at home at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
