By ADELLE PITTS and JADE YOO
On Wednesday, Dec. 18th, JV boys’ and girls’ swimming and diving celebrated an impressive victory against Berwick Academy. Several swimmers tried out new events, while others achieved personal records, showcasing the team’s hard work and dedication.
Lower Ciara O’Neill highlighted the positive atmosphere of the event. “Overall, it was a really good team environment. It’s really nice to see the large turnout of people at games, and so many people go out of their way to support their friends.”
To prepare for meets, the team practices every day, with each session focusing on different aspects of racing. The coaches’ strategy of alternating between conditioning and technique creates a well-rounded training approach.
Lower Artur Novaes Ferreira said, “Usually the day before the meet, we focus a lot on our technique, which includes practicing flip turns going quickly into the wall and relay starts off the blocks. Earlier in the week, we’ll do harder workouts to stay at a good fitness level.”
Looking ahead to the rest of the season, the team is dedicated to growth and personal improvement. Novaes Ferreira continued, “I want to get faster, especially at an endurance level, where I can maintain a quicker pace for longer. I’m excited and I know a lot of people on the team are excited to get faster and set new personal records.”
The team’s next meet is on Feb. 5 at St. John’s Prep. With their extensive training and competent skill, they are ready to take on whatever challenges the season brings.
