On Saturday, Jan. 25, the girls’ varsity hockey team had an away game at the Noble and Greenough School. Coming off of a 2-1 win against Holderness on Wednesday, a team that they had lost to in the past, they were excited for this game. “Nobles has a very solid program,” senior captain Grace Benson explained. “We’re very excited to play against a team that is strong and compete with them.”

Unfortunately, the girls’ team ended up losing 1-4 to Nobles; however, prep Clara Cary explained, “We were playing well and we were winning going into the second period, competing and outplaying them at times, but they, unfortunately, scored four goals on us after that.”

At the start of every practice after a game, Cary noted, “We do a stat review and our coaches check in with us with what we did well and how we can improve.” She added, “It’s really good because it helps us review the game and improve in the future.” Coaches set goals for the athletes; their recurring goal is their IGYB, I Got Your Back goal. The girls’ varsity hockey team is built on trust and teamwork, where teammates always lift each other up. Cary expressed, “Nobody on the team feels distant and we have a great family and teammate dynamic. The team takes on obstacles as a family and no one goes through anything alone.”

Senior captain Maria Gray looks toward their upcoming game. “Wednesday, we play Tilton,” she advised the team. “They won’t be as good as Nobles, but they will play hard, and we can’t play anything short of our best.”
