1/30/25 Highlight: Boys’ Varsity Squash

On Saturday, Jan. 25, boys’ varsity squash competed against both Hopkins and Hotchkiss School, winning against Hopkins in a resounding victory of 5-2, but losing 0-7 to Hotchkiss. As the team entered this double-header, they viewed the matches as a learning experience. “Going into the game, I knew that I had to play my best, no matter what,” lower Ian Lanning said. “I wasn’t expecting to win at all. I was just expecting to play a good match and I think I achieved that.”
Despite facing talented opponents, the team did their best not to be daunted. “Both of my opponents were top players in the nation,” upper Max Liu described. “The Hopkins and the Hotchkiss players are both currently ranked number one in the nation for their age group. I just decided to have fun and enjoy the experience.”
Others reflected on areas of improvement for future matches. “I think as a team, we could definitely be more consistent and stay focused longer,” senior Henry Werner said.
With significant matches coming up, such as high school nationals, the team analyzed and discussed goals they had for the future. “ I think everyone’s in a good spot right now and improving greatly,” Werner said.
“I want to review and watch my match over today and see what I can do better next time, especially for nationals,” Lanning added.
