12/19/24 Highlight: Varsity Swimming

By ELLINA KIM and LYDIA KUHNERT

This Saturday, varsity swimming and diving competed against Loomis Chaffe in a competitive and exciting meet. Exeter swimming and diving put on a strong showing and were well prepared for this meet after a successful week of tryouts over the last week of Fall Term, and a training trip to Florida.

Both girls’ varsity and boys’ varsity teams won their heats.

Senior Sophie Phelps reflected on the meet. “Saturday was awesome. We won and we stopped scoring pretty early on.” Despite a couple of disqualifications early on, Phelps says enthusiastically that, “our speed carried us through the meet.”

Phelps has high hopes for the rest of the season, and moving forward she wants to “work on our relay starts specifically. But other than that, our spirit was there so if we can hold onto it for the rest of the season, we will be very successful.”

“Shout out to Ellen Jin for going a 1:06 in the breaststroke!” Phelps said. “That’s super fast!”

Varsity swimming and diving’s next meet is against Brunswick School and Greenwich Academy on January 11th. The team has set themselves up for an impressive season.
