12/19/24 Highlight: Girls’ Varsity Ice Hockey
By WILLIAM INNOUE and MEGHAN TATE ZEE
The girls’ varsity hockey team has started their season with four wins out of four games. With the team’s recent win on Milton, this season has already been special. Senior captain Grace Benson said, “Milton was a team that none of us had ever beaten, including the four-year seniors and our coach. So this is huge for us; we were super motivated and coming in with a vengeance, eager for revenge. We like had the motivation going into it.”
Senior Soleil Jamani, a forward on the team, added, “We have really good leadership right now and I think everyone is in a positive mood—it’s really helped us get to where we are.”
Further, a new season means new players are introduced to the team. Taking the role of captain, Benson made sure everyone felt welcomed. She said, “In making sure our players feel comfortable, it gives the upperclassmen and the returners a good opportunity to step up and enforce our traditions and our funny pregame rituals like running around the athletic building.”
Jamani stated, “We have the annual Exeter Invitational Tournament this weekend, which we always host during Hell Weeks. So we are guaranteed two games on Friday and Saturday. Depending on our game tomorrow, we may play on Sunday.”
The girls’ varsity hockey team is already off to a promising start with strong leadership and the skills to win.
