1/16/25 Highlight: Varsity Wrestling

By JUNE KOH and ALEXA MOREL

Varsity wrestling competed in a quad meet on Thursday, Dec. 12. They faced the Hyde, Brooks, and Roxbury Latin Schools, with Big Red beating Hyde and Brooks but falling short of beating Roxbury Latin.

The team trained hard for the meet. Lower Michelle Choo described, “We do a lot of strength and conditioning, as it is fundamental for our performance in the meets. We go over a lot of the skills and techniques that we would use in the matches. Almost every practice or training session for the last few weeks has ended with live matches with our partners.”

Choo described the key mentorship provided by captains the day of the meet. She noted, “Our captains, Jack and Beckett, have shown great leadership abilities through their guidance.” She described their leadership, along with instruction from coaches, as essential to the team’s victories against Hyde and Brooks.

The team is lookingforward to more competitive meets, like this one, throughout the month. Choo stated her aspirations for the rest of the season. “I’m looking forward to really honing my skills so that when I’m actually on the mat, I feel more confident and ready to go.”

This Saturday, the team will compete in the Eight Schools Duals at Choate Rosemary Hall. Their season is off to a great start!
