On Jan. 11, Phillips Exeter Academy’s girls’ varsity basketball had their first match of the new year, hitting the road in a face-off against Buckingham, Browne, & Nichols. Big Red fought hard but ultimately lost with the score 56-71.

Despite the number on the scoreboard, Big Red worked hard until the final whistle blew. When Haylie Reagan ‘28 was asked about how the game went, she said, “I think the game went well, every time we ran into an issue, we worked together to fix it, although we didn’t get the outcome we had hoped for, it was a good learning experience for the team to have to think on the fly.”

When asked how they could improve, Reagan said, “I think a big thing that the team can improve on is being able to play at our own level, not focusing on what happened before, and having a next-play mentality.”

Although the outcome of this most recent game isn’t exactly what the team imagined, the girls’ varsity basketball team has a lot of potential and a lot to look forward to. Maya Hinrichsen ‘27 talked about the future of the team. “I think that we have a lot of hope. I think that our team has a great dynamic,” she said. “We’re all really friendly, but I think that our love for the game, our passion, and our wish to win some of these games have to show more on the court, even when we’re just warming up.” Overall, This team is showing a lot of promise for the upcoming season and there is a lot to be excited for. On Jan. 18, Big Red will have their next game. Support our players as they take on Deerfield Academy away from home. Go Big Red!
