1/16/25 Highlight: Boys’ Varsity Squash
By ELLINA KIM and LYDIA KUHNERT
This past Saturday, the boys’ varsity squash team competed against the Belmont Hill School and Deerfield Academy in a doubleheader fixture.
Against tough teams, boys’ varsity squash competed well, but fell short of both Deerfield and Belmont Hill with the same score of 0-7. So far this term, the team has performed well with a record of 2-1. Captain Max Liu lauded his players, “I’m quite proud of the team so far. We’ve really pushed ourselves on the court, left everything on there, and though players were getting injured quite frequently in the first half, I think we eased up very well last week. I think we’re off to a strong start.”
Although the team has played extremely well so far, Liu made it clear that their effort is far from over. “We still have a lot to work on in terms of patience on the court, just being able to drag out and win long rallies. When rallies do get long, players tend to lose their fitness and end up losing the sets, so that’s going to be what separates you from winning a match or not.”
Liu takes great pride in the team this year; not only in their skill, but also in the way they interact with each other. “We’ve bonded together, and that is very important in developing a cohesive team spirit. That’s gonna go a long way in supporting each other on and off the court.”
The team’s next game is at home against the Hotchkiss School, the Hopkins School, and Phillips Academy Andover. Go out and support the team in their impressive season!
