On Wednesday, Oct. 23, Exeter’s varsity volleyball team faced off BB&N, defeating them 3-0. Though the results turned out as expected, the game was not an easy win.
Lower Melody Ma described, “The game against BB&N was the closest we’ve come to losing a set this season, with the first set being 27-25. They had multiple set points, which put a lot of pressure on us.”
Senior Steph Handte mentioned, “We lost one of our primary hitters that game due to an injury. This required some of us to play a position different from our own. There was no doubt that most of us felt a sense of unfamiliarity and discomfort.”
Despite facing many challenges, the team pushed through with unparalleled resilience.
“We knew what we were capable of as a team. Not only did we know, but we proved it too. We defeated BB&N 3-0: this was a result of trust, consistency, and discipline. I want to shout out to all my teammates for committing to their role in that game despite the stress and anxiety that overcame us,” commented Handte.
“The win was a group effort,” concluded Ma.
The team secured another 3-0 win against St. Paul’s School on Saturday, Oct. 26, extending its season’s flawless streak.
“We are currently undefeated and have not dropped a single set,” said Handte. “The goal is to keep it that way until the season is over, ultimately winning the championships.”
Ma also emphasized that the team’s ultimate goal throughout the entire season has been “to win the NEPSAC tournament.” She explained, “It has and will always be our goal. We came close last year, but this year we really want the title.”
Handte concluded, “I am confident that we have the ability this year to win. Our biggest competitor right now is Loomis Chaffee, also ranked undefeated. We have a game against them on Friday, Nov. 1. Come watch us defeat Loomis!”
