Staff Spotlight: Irini Brownlee

In the fast-paced, busy lives of Exonians, it’s the small moments that often make our days. For many students, a visit to Grill means not only grabbing a snack, but also a chance to get a smile from the sweet grill staff Irini Brownlee and catch up in the midst of overwhelming schedules. Whether she’s handing out grill cookies with a smile or saying a simple have a nice day dear, Brownlee is a comforting presence at PEA.

“Every interaction I’ve had with her has been super positive,” prep Lydia Kuhnhurt said. “She’s always smiling, always ready to quickly snatch a cup of ice for you so you don’t have to wait too long—really good vibes all around.” Brownlee helps turn a simple visit to Grill into something a little more special.

Lower Adu Ilangovan shared a similar sentiment. “She always brightens up my day, whenever she asks me how I’m doing or just tells me about her day. She’s always so smiley and she always asks me questions, and if I’m ever tired she would ask me if I’ve had a lot of homework.”

These little interactions with Brownlee make Grill more than just a place to grab food—it’s a place where students feel cared for.

Prep Manuel Zhang said, “When I was touring, she gave me a free Grill Cookie because she remembered me from Exeter Summer.”

Zhang continued, “She’s really like a pleasant lady. She always says, ‘Hi, and how you’re doing.”

Brownlee not only leaves an impact on students at the academy, but also on her coworkers and other staff members. Grill staff Amber Bourgeois remarked, “I mean she does as much as she can. She does a great job. She’s very well known and a lot of people love her.”

Brownlee’s friendly attitude truly helps make Grill a welcoming space for students. Lower Marco Andres appreciates this personal touch. He explains how impactful her concern can be: “I love when Ms. Brownlee asks me how I’m doing. She can always tell when I’m tired, and it means a lot to me at a place as stressful as Exeter.”

Upper Asha Masoudi, who visits Grill for coffee almost every morning, shared her experience. “I see Ms. Brownlee a lot. She’s always super nice and asks me how my day is going. She’s really interesting to talk to. Whenever I bump into her, it’s always a pleasure to get to talk with her.”

Brownlee makes an impact on our everyday lives—so, the next time you’re in Grill, make sure to say hello and show your gratitude!
