By ANGELA HE, ALEX LIM, and MEGHAN TATE ZEE
Meet Shay Kashif, the new upper from the Bay Area, CA, with a mission to brighten your mornings and kickstart your day right. As the mastermind behind Good Morning Exeter, Kashif has transformed a simple Instagram account into a daily dose of inspiration for the bustling students of the Academy. With over 300 followers on this account, Kashif never diappoints as a go-to source for motivation and positivity. Each morning, students can rely on Good Morning Exeter to deliver more than just videos–it’s a personalized pep talk and a reminder that “Rain or shine, it is always a beautiful day to be an Exonian!”
When asked about the inspiration behind Good Morning Exeter, Kashif said, “I went to school with someone who did a similar thing at UCLA, where he would wake up and yell ‘Good Morning’ to the camera. And I wanted to bring that same story to Exeter.”
Although Good Morning Exeter is fairly new, having just begun around two weeks ago, it has already gained a massive band of supporters. Kashif commented, “I’m surprised by how much of a following it’s getting. I’m extremely grateful, although I am very surprised. I did not think it would get this far.”
Along with daily weather reports, announcements, and jokes, Kashif has been spicing up his recent content through guest features. When asked about what kind of content he decides to put in, he replied, “The announcements I do are a mixture of things happening on campus. Sometimes I coordinate with clubs, the Student Council, and more.”
“Good morning Exeter has truly been the highlight of my day,” remarked upper Kyle Kennedy’s, “Every time it shows up on my feed, I feel blessed to see Shay, a new upper, be able to bring the community together in this way.”
Kennedy’s, being one of Good Morning Exeter’s earliest fans, has described that being a guest feature on the show would be “a dream come true.”
“Keep doing the lord’s work,” he said.
Kashif has had a couple of guest features on his show, one of them being upper Ethan Benenson. who talked about Rosh Hashanah. “I’m a huge fan,” Benenson said, “I love what he’s doing with it. I think there’s a lot of potential in this program and I think he can really highlight a lot of the community events that we have on campus and bring the Exeter community together.”
Good Morning Exeter has been a growing platform ever since it started—we suspect the reason why it is so beloved by Exonians is because of the optimistic energy it radiates through its daily posts. Often we Exonians get preoccupied with our busy lives by stressing about grades, sports, clubs, and who else knows what. However, Kashif’s daily posts remind us that we should always start our mornings off right with a boom of energy and a big smile!
