Life Advice

Hello everyone! Welcome back to Life Advice! Although this is the final installment of the year, today’s questions focused on tea and spring time romance will leave you fully advised for the rest of the year!

How do I get a date to EP?

First off, you don’t need a date to go to EP. Sometimes the most fun EPs are the ones you go to by yourself because not only do you get to watch other people awkwardly interact, but you also don’t have to go through the pain of your arm falling asleep while it’s half-gripping the shoulder of someone you may or may not really know for half an hour. But, if you really would like a date to EP, you don’t have to wait for someone to ask you. Reach out to the person in your math class that you always share confused looks with or that kid in your history class that gives you a summary of the previous night’s readings when you don’t get around to the homework. You can also ask to be set up, or just take a friend! Whatever way you decide to do it, finding a date for EP doesn’t have to be stressful.

What should I wear to tea?

IT’S TEA SZN!! Personally, I think tea is the perfect excuse to wear anything and everything with a floral print. I think floral can be tough to get away with in everyday attire, but there’s something about spring and taking pictures at tea that makes it various combinations of boldly colored flowers seem like the only logical option. If floral prints are not your thing, I’m also a huge fan of pastels. With the flowers blooming and the grass looking especially green, light blues, pinks and yellows are especially aesthetically pleasing.

How do I get invited to a tea?

Have a close friend in every single dorm and house on campus! In all seriousness, getting invited to tea is not as hard as it may seem. A lot of people just want to take a friend to tea so there isn’t any kind of romantic pressure, so find someone looking for a friend and just drop hints about how great you are at eating finger sandwiches and being photographed. Also, if you invite someone to your tea, chances are they’ll invite you to their tea too!

How fun are teas/what actually happens at them?

Most teas are held in the spring, so many of them have outdoor games to play and the dorms usually provide some kind of food. Whether that food is fruit and baked goods or prepared meals, there is usually some kind treat at teas. But the big activity at teas is taking pictures. People really can spend months talking about the pictures they’re going to take at tea. The perfectly candid giggling shot with your best friend is the Holy Grail of tea photos and although it is hard to achieve, if you can get one in one of your years as an Exonian, I think it’s safe to say you can graduate feeling you’ve accomplished something. Although sometimes awkward and possibly a little boring, teas are pretty fun for the most part if you’re around people that make you smile.

I hope in times of stress and desperation you look back to this year’s Life Advice and are able to salvage something that helps you get through whatever trials you’re facing. We’re almost to the end of the year, so hold on, and have a relaxing summer!
