Trendwatch

Hey, Trendsetters!

Summer is over and fall is officially underway. This means that it’s socially acceptable to be chugging pumpkin spice lattes and hiding in oversized knits. Although sweaters are the classic go to piece for the season, here are some people who switched it up and stayed fresh for the beginning of autumn:

Carissa Chen ‘17 looked amazing in chambray on chambray this week, playing up the blue theme with a striking teal scarf. Also, Nick Kastenholz ‘16 looked dapper in blue, rocking a full navy pinstripe suit with blue accent socks. Ally Grounds ‘17 welcomed fall with a beaded top paired with combat boots and a leather jacket. Ava Drennan ‘18 wore a gorgeous pineapple dress, calling back those summer memories. Jordan Haney ‘16 looked ravishing in a simple and classy navy button down with a leather-lined, Mandarin-style collar. He paired this fashion-forward piece with classic cords. Looking gorgeous as always, Ariel Kim ‘16 rocked a floral, a-line midi skirt with a fresh pair of white sneakers. Jake Della Pasqua ‘16 gave us a little skin and made a statement in his bold 5 inch inseam, seersucker shorts. Chic as ever, Rachel Luo ‘17 strutted her metallic black skirt and high neck black tank in a classy pair of strappy black heels.

This past week was London Fashion Week for the Spring season of 2016. Among the designers featured at the event was Burberry who staged an incredible show, featuring neutrals with sequin accents, starring the always lovely Kate Moss. Also well received were Louis Vuitton and current designer Nicolas Ghesquière. Erdem presented a collection of dreamy 70s inspired longline dresses, and J.W. Anderson turned heads with an eye catching collection of provocative cuts and unusual silhouettes. Simone Rocha also played with the idea of dramatized shapes, especially oversized puffy sleeves. Both Christopher Kane and Mary Katrantzou’s collections were based heavily on neons and bright colours, though sticking to simple shapes.

This past Sunday marked the Emmy’s 67th Primetime Awards ceremony. Bloggers are calling it the Emmy’s most fashionable year yet! Our favorite looks include Scandal’s leading lady, Kerry Washington, who mixed old with new in her midi metallic Marc Jacobs dress. The oversized shoulder pads perfectly balanced out the high side slit and mirror-like sequins. Julianne Hough from Dancing With The Stars shocked all in her strappy lace and harness-like gown. Modern Family’s sassy teen star Sarah Hyland killed it in her flattering, wine colored gown. The dress’ lines and off-the-shoulder straps shaped her body perfectly.

We’re really looking forward to this fall’s newest trends including the revamped military chic and velvet accessories. Also, mixed-material patterns are the perfect way to make a statement. Try pairing a velvet top and simple black bottoms to keep it chic and comfy. Play with hard and soft with a military inspired skirt and high-neck feminine collar. And yes, it is getting colder, so don’t forget to keep it as cozy as possible. Unique tights or high socks can be way to reuse a spring skirt. They can complete a look or become a statement piece by themselves.

Stay warm and stay trendy! ;)

Xoxo,

Julia and Lexi
