Fall Term Events Rundown

As leaves turn and temperatures drop, fall term not only brings about colder weather, but also a slew of new activities. From mind readers to mind-blowing concerts, the next few months are chock-full of fun events to take Exonians’ minds off the stress and strain of fall term. The first event of the term will be, as always, the mental magic duo “The Evasons’.” The husband and wife team specialize in hypnosis and mind reading, and their show is a must-see for any paranormally inclined Exonians. Last year, even the most skeptic Exonians left the show feeling mystified and mesmerized by The Evasons’ talents. The following week will see the arrival of the highly anticipated, hotly debated Dunbar Back in Black dance. The dance, which usually takes place on the first weekend of the term, was moved this year to accommodate the newly implemented Big Red Carnival.Later on in the term, yet another college music troupe will visit the Academy for the College A Cappella night. Expectations will be set high this year after a stellar performance from the MIT Logarhythms last fall, and whichever group is chosen to visit will have large shoes to fill. The A Cappella night is a student favorite due to the sometimes comedic nature of the shows. The mix of music and entertainment makes for a great night that is not to be missed.Another musical event this term is the E.A.R. Rock Concert. The Exeter Association of Rock (E.A.R.) is a student-run rock and alternative music group. Members form groups within the club and work together to perform covers and occasionally original songs. The Rock Concert is a great event for any and all Exonians who enjoy music, and the student performers put on a fantastic show each and every year. The final event of the fall term is Soule Hall’s annual dance, Soule Tea. The dance caps off the hectic Exeter/Andover weekend and is a great chance for students to cut loose and have some fun before grinding down to study for exams. The dance is always widely attended, and many students cite it as the best dance of the year.In the same vein, the Exeter/Andover weekend is a two-day course in Exeter pride. After a hyped-up, crowd-pleasing pep rally on Friday night, the following Saturday will be jam-packed with games and races, and all Exeter students should make an effort to get out to the fields, pool or gym to support their Big Red teams. In addition, E/a will take place at Exeter this year, which is all the more reason to attend as many games as possible.Additionally, while E/a is the best weekend to cheer on Big Red, many sports teams have weekly or even bi-weekly games, and nothing is better than seeing a stadium full of fans before heading out onto the turf. Show some Exeter pride, wear some red and get out there and cheer for your school. On a final note, any student who wants to schedule their own event can do so by contacting Kelly McGahie at kmcgahie@exeter.edu.
