Hello fashion-friendly individuals,
This week marked an important transition for The Exonian, a new board and a fresh look on the paper. In order to celebrate the departure of the 136th board, we are featuring a few of our retired members.
136th board Editor in Chief Katie Liptak ‘15 wore a funky yellow retro dress with floral print, paired with a gray wool sweater and an interesting emoji necklace. Managing Editor Jay Lee ‘15 rocked a unique pair of plaid wool pants with a rustic pair of captoe boots.
Life Editor Millie Dunstan ‘15 wore a thick furry black coat paired with a big black cape, and a black mask. Millie’s outfit was highlighted by her unique Dr. Martens oxfords that featured a stitched paisley upper and a leather welted sole. Her sidekick, Monica Acosta ‘15, went for a relaxed-chic look with a maroon and blue Parisian flannel discovered at a thrift shop when she was abroad.
News Editor Sam Yoo ‘15 matched a chambray button down with sepia pants. His outfit was topped off with a double breasted navy peacoat and russett walkers. Fellow News Editor, Alice McCrum ‘15, wore a classic tartan Maxi dress paired with a grey cashmere sweater and black Superga sneakers, making for an edgy but warm look.
137th board News Editor Alex Zhang ‘16 wore a sassy grey polar bear sweater, paired with a grey wool tie and brown cords. Grey is always a good go-to color for a softer look than black.
Writer Nolan Peacock ‘17 looked hip in a white oxford button down, navy suede bomber and olive chinos, paired with a unique paisley linen tie.
Exonian Advisor and English teacher Ms. Erica Plouffe Lazure wore a jade-green beaded necklace that reminded us of Lisa from The Simpsons. She complemented it with a green cable knit cardigan, white blouse and simple dark-wash jeans.
Trendwatch writer Helen Edwards '15 wore a thick oversized turtleneck sweaters from American Apparel.
If you have taken a breath in the past 72 hours then you know that Tuesday night was the annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. It is the one night of the year men, women, and children all over the world gather around their computer or televisions and gawk in unison at the delicate craftsmanship and artistry of the angels’ wings.
Every year, Victoria’s Secret tries to do a little something-something technology-wise and this year was no different. In addition to 3D printing many of the frames of the Angels’ Wings, if not just the wings themselves, instead of covering the runway with glitter as is tradition, thousands of LED lights were embedded into the stage and coded to change with performances and sections of the show. These effects culminated into a mystifying visual experience with subtle changes and surprises with every step and wink of the models.
Now we must remember that we can’t all be in the Victoria’s Secret fashion show. However, that doesn’t mean we can’t rock fashion-forward looks even in the dreary Exeter weather. If you want to stay on your style-game but don’t feel that Exeter is the place to go all out, you can never go wrong with a simple, yet chic look. A simple beige half-trench or black peacoat with slim jeans and a broken-in pair of leather boots or oxfords makes for a classic yet easy look.
We also would like to point out the tragedy that is Bean Boots. The rise in purchases of L.L Bean’s "Bean Boots" has resulted in a waitlist of one hundred thousand, leaving practically-dressed fans in a panic. This incredible shortage is a result of the basic babe epidemic that’s sweeping college and prep school campuses nationwide.
I leave you with these parting words from former News Editor Brian Jun Cheol Kim '14. Keep this message in your heart as you wade through the swamps of pseudo-fashion that is Exeter.
"Fashion is making a statement without moving your lips."
You know you love me.
xoxo,
