Life Advice
Q1: Since Spring Break, I’ve been having a tough time getting back into the demanding flow of Exeter life. What do you guys do to get back into the mindset and get your priorities organized? OG_Simpy: First and foremost, I think it’s important to start out the term well and not wait until midterms come out to start working hard and grinding to get good grades. Keep in mind things that will make life easier for you. Things like leaving good impressions on your teachers, working efficiently, getting extra help and asking questions when you need to, are important when trying to finish off the year on a high note. Q2: I have heard a lot of good things about spring term. Winter term was tough, but what are some perks of spring term? Yoosk: I think that a lot of people allude to spring term as the best term, primarily because of the great weather. It’s a great time to hang out with your friends outside and partake in dorm activities like quad ball or bridge jumping. If you’re feeling lucky, you could suggest having class outside to your teacher. OG_Simpy: There are also a lot of good activities organized by the school. Events like Bloc Party help to give everyone a well-needed break from stressful work. QT2017: As a prep, I finish my homework pretty early and get really bored at night. Any good movies you guys have seen recently? Yoosk: If you’re interested in animated movies, I recommend Spirited Away (2001). It’s an absolute classic in Asia and the animation is top-notch. For an authentic viewing experience, I suggest you watch the subtitled version instead of the dubbed one. OG_Simpy: Some of my favorite classics are Good Will Hunting (1997), City of God (2002), Boiler Room (2000) and Rain Man (1988). The Intouchables (2011) is a classic French movie that my dorm watches quite frequently. If you’re looking for something directed in the last few years that was pretty popular check out Life of Pi (2012) or The Lego Movie (2014). Q4: I’m tired of Ben Howard, Coldplay and John Mayer. What are some bands that can keep my spirits up during the long spring term that we have ahead of ourselves? OG_Simpy: First of all, it’s important to cop some quality speakers if you want to truly enjoy your music this term. Good Shoes, an English band from Morden, are an upbeat band that’s really fun to try if you’re into that type of alternative-rock kinda thing. Bands like Real Estate and Metronomy are also generally pretty good bands to listen to. Consult Nolan Peacock if you’re looking for some uber-hipster music. Yoosk: Open your windows, invite some friends to your room and listen to some chill songs to really enjoy spring term. If you just want to feel laid-back, you can listen to some bossa nova, which is supposed to be a mix of samba and jazz. Have any life problems?
