Winter Term: A Reflection
Thinking back over this term, I can honestly say that I have no idea what happened. There were two or three weeks in the beginning that practically never existed (mainly because there was no issues of The Exonian and no newspaper = no meaning. Am I right, News?) Then there was another clump of two weeks where you went back to wherever your people celebrate holidays and enjoyed life for a couple of days. You smiled awkwardly at family members that you can’t remember the names of and proceeded to want to go back to Exeter but not really because that means actually doing stuff with your life. Anyways, some of us came back. The others got stuck in airports and had to live off of bad sushi and slices of pizza since. Then I think midterms came?? (I think that I subconsciously block out a lot of the painful memories.) I recall spending a lot of time with my adviser’s cats. A lot of time. As in one of them started waiting for me outside of the shower. I don’t think that I have ever felt so loved. Moving on. After that, the annual epidemic, Abbot Casino, came along and infected Exonians of all ages with an unusual impulse to change an indeterminable number of profile pictures. It was the night of heels on ice, spending two hours to get ready for something you’ll attend for one hour, and sticking to the Go Fish and Blackjack tables because you don’t actually know how to play Poker. My dad called me a week later and asked whether or not we had recently had a dance. When I responded no, he called me a liar and mentioned the pictures on my Facebook. I explained to him that Exeter dances were very, very different. Uncomfortably so. We also welcomed Lisa MacFarlane, aka LMac, with tons of clapping and whooping even though we hadn’t even met her yet.
