The Prep Phrasebook
Seeing as their first term is coming to a close, the new students at Exeter are bound to have learned, as every new student before them has, that we have a specific phraseologies, which outside of Exeter make little sense. These terminologies have a deeper meaning to Exonians, and it would be an absolute tragedy if someone was not yet fully fluent in the campus language, so I’ve taken some time to translate a few phrases. "That was a fun EP, I’ll text you sometime." = We never even spoke on that date our friends set up in a dark church, and I’m not going to text you particularly because I don’t have your number. "You wanna go get some fish from dhall?" = I’m trying to poison you. "I’m from Manhattan." = I’m not just from New York, I’m from the upper east side. I want you to believe that my life is just like Gossip Girl. "So do you know what you’re doing this summer?" = I do. And I really want to tell you. "Are you ready for dress like a nerd day?" = Are you ready to dress normally and not feel weird about it? "So….. where do you want to go?" = I’m taking you out on a date, but there are only like four places to go: The same two coffee shops, grill, and your room. "No….. We should probably go to your room." = I have a super weird roommate who never sleeps and plays avant-garde tuba. "I don’t think that I’m in any classes with a harkness warrior." = Actually I am a harkness warrior, I just can’t realize it. "Did you get invited to [random dorm] tea?" = I did. And I’m trying to show it off. "Yo I was grinding all night!" = I got to the library around 2 or 2:30 and I stayed working on my 331 until one of the librarians finally kicked me out.
