On Saturday, Feb. 9, the girls’ varsity basketball team faced off against Pingree School. The fight was hard, but sadly, they were beaten at the last second with a final score of 46 to 43.
The game went back and forth, and there had been a technical difficulty during the game. Prep Sarika Agarwalla mentioned, “It was a three-point game with ten seconds left and then the clock stopped working.”
Additionally, there were some troubles that the team had to push through. “As a team, if we make a mistake in any offensive or defensive possession, we have to be able to overcome it. Sometimes we can linger on those mistakes, and it kind of piles up. So if we make a mistake, I think it’s important for us to move on and treat each possession very valuably,” lower Lynnwoo Hong commented.
The tense moments were intense at times, but the captains were able to pull the team through the troubles. Hong highlighted, “When we were falling behind in terms of points or pressure or intensity, it was the captains, such as Cassie, who would keep our heads up and tell us to keep positive words and energy on the court and just to be a good source of energy for each other.”
Despite these difficulties, there are still many things that the team has to look forward to. “We have an eight-school tournament next weekend, so I’m pretty excited about that,” Agarwalla remarked.
Hong also talked about bonding more with the team. “I’m looking forward to more special moments besides our regular practices. For example, practice this past Friday, we did the theme ‘dress up as something that starts with the same letter as your name,’ or two weeks ago we dressed up as our favorite Taylor Swift era. Moments like these, when you can just have fun, make the team so fun.”
