By ANNA OSADCHAYA and ARISA YOSHINO
The girls’ JV Squash team has delivered an outstanding performance, recently securing a 7-0 sweep against Noble & Greenough and a 12-1 win against Milton. Through strong individual performance along with unwavering team support, the team showcased their ability to excel.
Reflecting on the Nobles match, Izzy Racho, a prep who played a significant role in the team’s success, reflected on the team’s overall performance, “My teammates played really well and won most of their matches…” She also emphasized the team’s preparation during practice, crediting intense conditioning and match play for their success.
For prep Ria Wilson, the Milton match tested her resilience.“Even though I didn’t win overall, it was a lot of fun and exciting to have everyone cheer me on,” she reflected.
Playing in front of both teams added to the intensity, but the encouragement of her teammates kept her motivated.
One of the most thrilling moments of the match came from lower Alva Carlston, who played five full matches. “It was really well-matched,” Wilson recalled. “The entire team was cheering her on and very invested in how she did. It didn’t matter if she won or lost–though she did win — everyone was just so supportive.”
Beyond the court, the team’s strong community and support are essential to their success. As Racho highlighted, “Having a good community is key to effective practices and successful matches.” She also added the central role of coaches: “Our coaches and staff give great advice and reinforce our good habits as well as facilitating team bonding.”
Mental toughness remains a key focus for the team as they look ahead: “Even though squash is an individual sport, being confident in yourself and helping others is very important,” Wilson added. “Our coaches, captains, and our entire team emphasize that.”
