On Wednesday, Oct. 9th, Big Red’s varsity boys’ soccer team faced off against Worcester Academy, ending the game with a close tie.

Upper Kofi Annan-Brown explained the team’s expectations going into the game. “It was definitely a team we were worried about,” he said, “although similar in skill level to teams that we’ve beaten in the past like Choate. It was probably our first pretty challenging game in a while.

Annan-Brown explained the major events in the match. “We started off strong, and by halftime, the score was tied. Then, in the thirteenth minute left in the second half, we got scored on in a penalty. But,” Annan-Brown continued, “three minutes later, we were able to score another goal, tying up the game again. It was frustrating to end on a tie after we lost against Milton and others before that. We know that we have to win a lot of the games in the future to make the playoffs. That being said, a tie is better than nothing, and the team was pretty strong, so we’re happy with the result.”

“It was really hard but we scored two of our best goals and came out with a tie. That’s something we haven’t done in years,” co-captain and senior Jaylen Bennet commented.

“I want to shout out Josh Mullen, because he started as a lower on the team and has done a lot for our defense. I also want to shout out our goalkeeper, Sebastian, and Sophian, because he scored one of our goals for us,” said Annan-Brown.

“A lot of hard work and practice went into this game,” lower Ari Benenson said. “It was a really special moment when Sophian scored the equalizer with ten minutes left. We had amazing team energy and environment and we’re super excited for the rest of the season.”
