By ERIN HAN and JINMIN LEE
On Dec. 13, the boys’ varsity basketball team played at home against the Dexter Southfield School for their season opener. Though it was a tough match for both teams, Exeter defeated Dexter with a final score of 73-64.
“The highlight of the game was getting a tough, gritty win,” captain and senior Tyler Bike commented. “Dexter is a very talented, well-coached team, and there were some moments in the game where we had a substantial lead that they cut into. Being able to stay composed and keep fighting is something that we were proud of and need to keep doing while moving forward.”
“We started slowly but came together after a while. Dexter played well in the second half when we missed a few rebounds, giving them an opportunity to fight back. I want to shout out Tyler Bike, who played well despite having some bad fouls called on him,” captain and senior Ryder Frost said.
Bike shared the team’s ambitions for the rest of the season. “We want to win a championship,” he explained. “That’s the goal every year. We must go into every practice and game with the same preparation. If we stick together, get better every day, and hold each other accountable, we will get this group stronger and more prepared for what is to come.”
Bike added, “We play a lot of talented teams, and our coaches have done a good job of giving us the tools and knowledge it takes to win at a high level.”
Overall, the team started the season strong with a challenging victory, setting the tone for dedication and teamwork.
