Girls’ Tennis Suffers Tough Loss Against Andover

After a valiant struggle, girls’ varsity tennis lost to Andover on Wednesday.  Although the varsity B team lost 2-7 and the varsity A team lost 0-9, prep Sarah Lu, who plays on the varsity B team, said that “many of the individual games were really close.” The team remained hopeful during the close matches, but they “knew it would be difficult to win” because they had lost to Andover a couple weeks ago, lower and varsity B player Katie Lee explained.

“Everyone was very hyped up for the matches beforehand and we were all ready to win.”

Most of the girls left the court feeling like they had played well and learned from the playing time. “We had a tough loss, but it was a good experience,” Lee said. Some girls even thought that Exeter’s teams would have had a better chance of winning were the weather conditions different. “I think if the heat wasn’t as bad, we could have capitalized on more opportunities,” prep Reina Matsumoto said, though she still felt like Exeter’s girls gave it their all in the matches. “Regardless of [the weather], we all cheered each other on and played our hardest,” Matsumoto said.

This match-up against Andover was an important game, not only because they were competing against Andover, but also because the girls felt well-prepared to play against their rivals.

“We had team lunch beforehand, so we were super pumped and ready for everything Andover had in store for us,” Lu said.

Matsumoto agreed. “This game was probably our biggest all season, not just because it was Andover,” she said.  “We played them earlier in the season and both teams were close to winning.  Everyone was very hyped up for the matches beforehand and we were all ready to win.”
