Boys’ Lacrosse Comes Back From Tough Loss, Beats BB&N 15-2

After a tough 6-7 loss at St. Sebastian’s to begin their 2016 season, the boys’ lacrosse team came back strong in their game at BB&N last Friday. With an 11-0 lead at halftime, the team was extremely successful in the offensive zone, finishing the game with a score of 15-2.

“We held a shutout through the first half, and our second line defense played well too,” explained senior and captain Alex Farley, adding “our offense is starting to find their stride, and we did well on ground balls”.

Lower Peyton Weatherbie agreed, saying “we were able to get a good lead in the beginning and maintain it.”

Many different team members scored during the game, which showed the depth of the roster. “All of our starters played extremely well which helped get us the 11-0 lead,” senior Bryce Soucy said.  One key player during the game was lower Jack Pimental, who dominated on the attack side of the field, scoring four goals and one assist.

Upper Bradley Ingersoll also played extremely well and had a goal off after going past a defender. “A range of players got their stats up on the board with goals and assists,” according to senior Ethan Romero, who went on to say that the game was “an opportunity for some of the newer guys on the team to buckle up and show us their skills.

“We are really looking forward to the new guys on our team taking the experience they got in this game and applying it to our games in the future,” he added.

"Anytime you can bounce back from a tough loss like we had against Sebs and get a 15-2 win right before another incredibly talented opponent is wonderful."

BB&N was not a particularly challenging game, according to Farley, who also recognized that their defensive communication and ball movement could improve.

Weatherbie echoed this sentiment, saying “we could have communicated more on the defensive side of the ball but it’s still early in the season and we have some time before our next game to figure it out.” Soucy noted a key challenge of the game as “making sure we kept our tempo and stayed focused for the full four quarters along with the brutally strong rain that hit us for a little bit.”

Winning at BB&N was especially important after the disappointing season opener.  “Anytime you can bounce back from a tough loss like we had against Sebs and get a 15-2 win right before another incredibly talented opponent is wonderful,” commented Soucy.

With so many capable players, the team is in a strong position. The upcoming games against the Tilton School and Cushing Academy will be tough, but will be great opportunities to demonstrate their talent and challenge themselves.

With a tough schedule ahead of them, the team is looking to improve their record and remain consistent. It will be important for them not to lose stamina and to keep dominating on the attack side of the field, while ensuring their defense also remains strong.

According to senior and Captain Jimmy Young, “there is still a lot of room for improvement. We will take what we did well and fix what we did wrong to prepare for future games.”

The team will play the Tilton School this Friday and Cushing Academy on Saturday.
