Gwendolyn Wallace ’17 Shatters Indoor Track Triple Jump Record

This past Sunday at the 47th annual Dartmouth Relays, upper Gwendolyn Wallace broke the Phillips Exeter indoor track record in the triple jump. The old record, held by Asile Patin ‘14, was 36’8 3/4”, which Wallace obliterated with an impressive 37’5 1/2” personal record.Wallace has consistently been the team’s top triple jumper, missing the school record by just two inches last year as a lower. With her history of success, the record comes as less of a surprise, but nevertheless, the magnitude with which she surpassed the old record stunned teammates.“We all knew she would eventually break the record, but to see her shatter the old record by nine inches on her second jump of the season was simply incredible,” upper Sydney McKiernan said.Upper Grace Pratt agreed, acknowledging the dedication Wallace has put into track during the past few years. “It was amazing to see all of her hard work pay off,” she said. “She’s an incredible athlete and friend, and I’m so happy for her.”Starting off the season with a bang, Wallace will serve as inspiration to the rest of the track team for the remainder of the season. “She sets an amazing example for all the newcomers on the team,” McKiernan said.
