Softball Comes from Universal Studios Ready to Show their Spirit
Girls’ varsity softball, despite cancellations on all their games so far, has been working hard during this preseason. The girls have been getting practice time where ever they can, whether it be time in the Cage, working out with Coach Sweet or time out on the turf. But even before all of this, even before the girls had even come back from spring break, they were practicing. The softball team flew down to Florida for some spring training before the 2015 season. Down in Florida they worked hard with softball coaching specialists and balanced their hard practices with the perfect amount of fun as they spent their afternoons bonding as a team at Universal Studios.
“We had this amazing coach help us with basic fundamentals which may seem easy, but it’s so good to go over everything and see what we can work on the most,” upper and captain Courtney Gibeley said.

Not only was spring training an amazing opportunity for the team to practice and fine tune their skills, but it was also a great chance for team bonding. The connections between the teammates were helped built by a Florida coach as well. “She taught us how to be a good teammate and a good person in general. She may have been the most inspirational person I’ve ever met,” Gibeley said.
According to prep Ella Johnson the team’s strengths are their batting and spirit, as well as the fundamentals. Their weaknesses include a lack of game knowledge and communication. Although some of the team’s communication and knowledge could be improved, their presence as one big family is clear to see.
Lower Caroline Grace, new to the team and the sport this year, said “The team is extremely welcoming and being a player that is new to the sport can be frustrating, but everyone on the team is very supportive and patient. They never seem to get tired of any of my endless questions.”
The girls are expecting to be able to play their scheduled games from here on out and would appreciate fan support and school spirit. Fans and support are what really drives a team like girls’ varsity softball, and they would love to see everyone out there on game day supporting Exeter.
Upper Lucy Weiler said fans should come “because supporting your athletes is important, regardless of gender and sport. Fans should also come watch because we are balling out 24/7, and we are cool people who deserve cool fans.”
