Boys’ Lacrosse Dominates BB&N

Even as the snow continues to melt away, spring sports are already in full swing. After a tough 3-5 loss to St. Sebastian’s to begin their 2015 season, the boys’ lacrosse team looked to rebound down at BB&N on Saturday. The boys came out with a new intensity and a competitive attitude. They dominated the Knights with purposeful passing and high energy. The team was extremely successful in the offensive zone, scoring 12 goals, and also played shutdown defense. Ending in a 12-2 win, the lacrosse team put the St. Seb’s woes in their past.

“I think we are going to have a great team this year,” senior and captain Thomas Stockham said. “We have good depth, which gives us some flexibility as far as who’s getting playing time.” The depth of the team is likely to be one of their key advantages over their competition. With so many capable players, the team has developed a “next man up” attitude. In terms of addressing the season opener, Stockham noted that the team was much better than the scoreboard suggested, as they failed to capitalize on several scoring chances. Quickly transitioning to a more positive note, Stockham said, “It was good to get a win at BB&N this weekend. It was a great opportunity to work out some kinks.”

Senior Brendan Graniez agreed with Stockham and said, “The team is pretty young, and we can only get better.” With a few tough games coming up against Roxbury Latin and Cushing, the team will certainly be given the chance to showcase their talents and be tested doing so.

“We have good depth, which gives us some flexibility as far as who’s getting playing time.”

Upper Jimmy Young said, “There is always room for improvement.” This attitude is very valuable and will spark a disciplined work ethic that the team will follow for the rest of the season.

Coming off a successful 15-6 season, the team will look to better their record with intensity on both ends of the field. Some key returning players include goaltender Stockham, upper defensive duo Alex Farley and Jason Corcoran and senior offensive powerhouses Winston Smith and Tucker Lemos, just to name a few.

With a lengthy schedule in front of them, the team won’t be able to let its guard down. Despite the fact that there are no playoffs in prep school lacrosse, the boys’ team will treat every game like it’s the last. Digging for every faceoff, fighting for every ground ball and playing smart lacrosse until the very last whistle.
