Girls’ Cross Country Conquers NMH Course, Prepares for First Race Against Deerfield of 2014-2015 Season

This past Saturday, the Big Red girls’ cross country team took the long, tiresome journey down to Northfield Mount Hermon to seal another victory for Phillips Exeter. The girls steam rolled through NMH and went on to clinch a 43-20 varsity, 49-15 junior varsity victory.“It was a great race; everyone did her best and in the end, we had something to show for it,” senior and captain Elsa Chinburg said. “I am really proud of all our girls.” The girls’ hard work throughout this fall has paid off and has earned them a perfect record so far this season. In addition to the victorious varsity girls’ team, this past Wednesday, the junior varsity girls blew past their competitors as they faced The Brooks School.“We did really well considering this unusual hot and humid weather,” senior Courtney Henrich said. “Everyone rallied together and we came out on top.” The junior varsity team, while only having had two races, is also on track to have a perfect record. In the wonderful world of cross country, varsity versus junior varsity isn’t an issue. Each team will train their hardest to continue on the Big Red domination of the trails.

If the girls stay on their current path, making interschols will not be a problem for our Big Red powerhouse.

The girls’ varsity cross country team has three races left, with a race against Andover capping off their season. If the girls stay on their current path, making interschols will not be a problem for our Big Red powerhouse. Each and every girl has circled November 1 on their calendars, or E/A. Andover swept our girls in the last two races, so they are eager to get revenge and provide Exeter with another E/A win.“We are ready for them. We have our sights set on what we would like to accomplish and how we are going to get there. It will not be easy since the race is at Andover, but we are definitely prepared none the less. Andover should be scared, very scared,” senior Michaela Morris said. With that attitude in mind, Phillips Exeter should have no problem defeating the Phillips Andover girls in a few weeks. As for the two races prior to E/A, the girls are preparing heavily for one of Phillips Exeter’s biggest rivals: Deerfield. The two teams are scheduled to race on October 18. “We don’t like them, and they don’t like us. We are going to work as hard as we can the next few days to gear up for the confrontation. We want to continue a great season with a hard-fought win over a good team,” Chinburg said. With the words of a strong cross country captain in everyone’s mind, the student body of Phillips Exeter Academy can rest easy knowing that they have an amazing set of girls representing them on the trails. Good luck to the girls against Deerfield, in the Mayor’s cup in Boston and against Andover.
