Water Polo Concludes Another Game with Solid Win

Exeter Boys’ Water Polo hosted Choate Rosemary Hall on Saturday, and were able to send them home with a loss.  Big Red crushed Choate to the tune of 18-6.  The team rose to 7-1 in the season and are now outscoring opponents 124-60 for the season.Bear Polo opened the game with a scorching hot entrance of eight first quarter goals.  But after the big lead, the boys got tired and allowed Choate to score three straight goals in the second quarter. At halftime, the captains and seniors focused the team, making sure they would not let their lead slip.  Big Red came out of the first half determined, adding ten goals to their lead in the second.  “After their small scoring spirit in the second quarter, we knew we had to tighten up the defense.  We completely shut them down, not allowing them to get through at all until the very end of the game,” senior Prin Harinsuta said.  Choate added three goals in garbage time to shrink Big Red’s margin of victory.“We came into the first quarter under the impression that Choate would be one of the best teams in the league,” lower Liam Oakley said,  “Last year we underestimated Choate and had to play catch up the entire game. We weren’t going to let that happen again. By the second half we had a substantial lead and our second group came in and kept up the intensity. Overall, it was one of our better games as a team.”Harinsuta stood out in the big win, helping the team jump out to its early lead and maintain it to the end.  “Prin really stepped up playing smart, heads up water polo which lead to our 8-0 lead in the first quarter,” Oakley said.  At halftime Harinsuta was very vocal about the team’s second quarter play.  “I felt like I needed to say something because we couldn’t let the lead slip, especially after how well we played early on,” Harinsuta said.  The defense also stepped up to shut Choate down for most of the game.Bear Polo has enjoyed a very successful season to this point, as they have outperformed last year’s impressive season.  The team has this Saturday off, giving them eleven days between the win over Choate and their next game on Wednesday, October 8th in a rematch against St. John’s Prep, who Big Red defeated 20-5 earlier in the season.  Despite the long layoff, the team will work hard to stay in shape and keep their hot streak alive.
