Boys' Tennis Crushes Tabor

Boys’ varsity tennis enjoyed a sunny day on Cape Cod as they easily swept a weak Tabor Academy team, 7-0. This puts Big Red at 5-0 in conference play, 6-1 on the season, and makes them one of the most dominant teams in New England, if not the most dominant.

Exeter had no flaws in their outing this week: no games were close. Everyone won in almost no time; the games were ended in a swift fashion. Tabor struggled against Exeter’s service, and Exeter’s number one, upper Moises Escobar, simply destroyed his opponent with tight shots in straight sets.

“I think we all played very well. Everybody won their matches in both singles and doubles, and none of the matches were very close. We are still undefeated, and I think that match in particular gave us a bit of a break,” prep Cameron Gruss said. “Last match we played Andover, and that was extremely close, so we were able to breathe this match. Everyone played extremely well, and all of us were happy with the turnout.”

Lower Joon Kim also noted that despite Tabor’s lack of talent this year, the game was beneficial for Big Red. “Well, it’s another win, and now that we're 5-0 in the New England conference, our confidence is very high. Although Tabor didn’t quite match up to our level of tennis, they were a good practice for Deerfield and other tough teams this coming week. Everyone played well in the Tabor match, and we can’t really say who was the MVP because we all played equally well,” Kim said.

Exeter squares off with the 8-2 Deerfield this week, and in the two opponents they faced off with in common, they had nearly the exact same results. This promises to be a very close matchup, and fortunately, Exeter has the home-court advantage and doesn’t have to drive nearly three hours for their match. With that on their side, the team should be able to pull off the win. The game is 2:00 this Saturday the 10th.
