Rowing to Success

The girls’ crew team is ready to continue their successes of last season. Last spring, their top two boats won first place in their respective division at Interschols, an amazing feat everyone hopes to repeat. Their 9-1 record from last season will be hard to beat, especially after the loss of the valuable rowers in the Class of 2013, but the girls are determined to have another successful winning season. It has been hard for the girls to get good practice time, as the Exeter River is still frozen and they cannot go out onto the water yet. Despite the obstacles, the athletes are taking advantage of their indoor time, erging and gaining needed strength for a hard and long season to come.“It can get pretty repetitive erging everyday, but it is definitely making our team stronger, and getting us more pre- pared for when we get on the water,” lower Lily Sexton said. The team is looking forward to some new talent, as well as the return of some very strong rowers. The team is younger than past years, but it is expecting another winning season nonetheless.Sexton said that all the team really needs to focus on and perfect is “having all eight girls in the boat moving as one in [an] effort to be as efficient and speedy as possible.” The girls are as close as ever, and unity on the boat should not be a huge problem. All the girls are excited for another season. “We are all working very hard already and are excited to be able to get out on the water and prepare for races,” lower Hailey Hudson said.Sexton added, “I speak on the behalf of all the girls on the crew team when I say I’m excited to see what this season brings.”
