Finally Outdoors

After an undefeated season last spring, Phillips Exeter track and field is looking for yet another dominating term as its first meet approaches. The team will participate in eight competi- tions; five of which will set them against multiple schools. The competition looks tough, particularly Northfield Mount Hermon, St. Paul’s School and Exeter High School. But Big Red plans to train hard, groom the preps’ skills, and count on the expertise of the returning athletes.“The team looks like it will have strength in a lot of areas and we have some talent coming in from new athletes,” lower Chudi Ikpeazu said. “It will be hard to match our undefeated streak of last year, as well as being New England Champions, but we stand a good chance against other schools.”For years track and field at Exeter has flourished on account of many reasons. Due to our large student body, Big Red has many successful athletes, a key element in a sport that involves such a large number of events. In addition, the team has a strong support network that helps the overall brilliance of the team grow and thrive.“I do not know much about other schools, but I know we outnumber many and that helps us score points,” Ikpeazu said. “The team is very supportive and the athletes are constantly chal- lenging and encouraging others to get better.”The most important thing for the team is that each member gives 100% every practice and stays competitive for the win. By doing so, they hope to have another successful year and another undefeated season.
