Boys' Hockey Takes One Step Closer to Ingalls

The boys’ varsity hockey team has taken the team one step closer to Ingalls after their 3-0 win against Milton this last Saturday. Every win pushes them closer to their goal and proves them to be a very promising team.“We’re in the dog days of the season now,” senior Griffin Py said. “So it was huge to go down to Milton and just take care of business, grabbing a needed win.” This win pushed their overall record to an amazing 17-3-2.The whole team gave the game their all. Three seniors, Matt Foley, Cody Rorick and Kevin Neiley, scored the three goals of the contest. Six different people assisted those goals, making the win a huge team effort. Milton put up a good fight, as they were ready to take vengeance for Exeter’s 5-1 win last season. Nevertheless, Big Red came out on top due to a very strong team effort.Big Red started the game on fire, with a quick goal from Rorick. “Cody scored a great goal early on,” Py said, “That really got the train moving and started things off right.” Throughout the game the team rode the momentum from Rorick’s early goal. While the team as a whole played well, Seniors Matt Foley and Jack Parsons played an exceptionally good game. Foley, usually a trusty defenseman, netted an amazing goal as an offensive player. “It was nice to see Foley joining attack and putting points up on the board,” upper Sterling Weatherbie said.Meanwhile Parsons, the team’s goalie, played a great game in the net, earning a third shutout for himself and the team. Upper Ted Hart also played a great game, generating a lot of scoring opportunities for his teammates.Although Big Red completely outplayed Milton, the team suffered a loss: lower Trevor Cosgrove sprained his knee during the game, fighting hard. “Unfortunately, Trevor got hurt in the process, which will be a tough loss for us as he’s a very consistent defender, but hopefully he’ll be back really soon,” Py said. The team must keep up the great effort they put into this Milton game in order to succeed in their tough upcoming games. “We have a lot of work ahead of us, Proctor on Thursday and then NMH on Saturday and Wednesday, which isn’t going to be easy,” Weatherbie said. With only seven more games until the end of the season, six before the big game against Andover, Big Red’s chances to win it all are looking good. With their incredible record, Exeter has proven themselves to be a worthy contender for the playoffs.“We’ve been a strong team all year and have a really good chance of winning it all. By winning a few more games we can clinch a first round home playoff game,” lower Spenser Young said, attesting to the promise of this year’s team. With the possibility for great things ahead, Big Red hockey looks forward to finishing off the season strong.
