Soxie Braces for Close Battle to Wrap Up Year

After starting the season slowly, going 1-8 through their first nine games, girls’ soccer has completely turned around, going 4-3 in their last seven games, and the team is now hungry for a win against Andover. The team hasn’t beaten Andover since 2007, but their recent momentum has them believing that they can put one in the win column this weekend. The team is passing well, taking good shots and playing stellar defense as of late, and if all goes according to plan, though Andover will be a tough opponent, Exeter will come out on top.Andover is full of tough, fast athletes and has shown a keen ability to score goals and score goals often. But over the past seven games, Exeter defense has shown dramatic improvement, holding opponents to zero goals four times in the last eight games. In addition, Andover has shown that they are a weak defense team as they have a let up two or more goals in seven games this season. Hopefully Exeter can take advantage Big Blue’s deficiencies in defense and keep up their own defensive efforts.“If we focus on defending and put that above everything else, we will be able to hold them off and possess. Then the chances will come and we can score, but the aggression and defense have to be there first,” said lower Charlotte Dillon.Exeter puts up a 5-11-1 record going into the game while Andover stands at 7-7-1. Although Andover boasts the better record, many of the games Andover has won/tied, Exeter has also won/tied.But as we all know, records do not really matter when it comes to E/a, so this will be a battle to the end. Come to the track at 10:30 AM to see Big Red and Big Blue battle it out.
