Moxie Eager to Win After Two Straight Draws

Although this was supposed to be a rebuilding season for Moxie after graduating six very talented seniors, this year’s squad has surprised many people by posting an impressive 8-7-1 record, surpassing all expectations. After a hard fought season that went much better than their record suggests, Big Red field hockey is ready to beat Big Blue this Saturday at home during E/a, after much preparation during practice. After tying their archrival for the past two years, Moxie is primed to come out with a big win to end their season on a high note.Coming into the game proud of their strong record, which speaks to the team’s commitment to improvement, Exeter has come off of a tremendous week of games and practice. However, Moxie is not only developing their skill on the field, but also mentally preparing for the match, working hard to study Andover’s game and surpass their skill. “We came off a really great week last week, and we’re definitely improving,” senior Katy Kinnon said. Exeter just beat KUA yesterday, 2-1, and tied a very strong Thayer team 1-1 this past Saturday.Led by Kinnon and seniors Hannah Wellington, Helen Hultin, and Samantha Attar, Exeter will hope to use their strength of a balanced offensive and defensive presence to their advantage. Big Red has been very successful in certain plays, specifically in stopping opponents near the goal, and passing the ball quickly into their offensive zone and scoring. On the other side of the turf, Andover posts an impressive 11-2-1 record. While the scoreboard may show more wins than Big Red’s Moxie, many of Andover’s wins/ties have been against opponents Exeter has won against or tied against. The team will not let Andover’s record deter them from their ultimate goal of an E/a victory.Lastly, a win against Andover would really help Exeter’s playoff bid this year, as it would put the team a few games over .500. “We really want to win this game because the past three years our E/a game has gone into overtime, and that is really frustrating. We have a lot riding on this game, and we all understand that, so we’re going to be really excited,” Kinnon said.Head out to the Stadium at 11:30 this Saturday to watch Moxie take on their rivals and zip across the field with incredible skill; with two experienced teams, it’s bound to be a game to remember.
