JV Volleyball Victorious

After three years of losses at the Exeter/Andover season finale, Big Red’s girls’ JV volleyball team took revenge on their traditional rival this Wednesday, taking the game in a five set victory. The 2013 volleyball season began on a high note for Exeter’s JV team with successive straight-set victories against Milton Academy, Governor’s Academy, and Pingree School, which raised their season record to 3-0.However, because of injuries, illnesses, and other personal reasons, Exeter was unable to continue their winning streak and quickly fell into a string of losses with a 1-6 record for the next seven games in their season.“This season was quite difficult. We started off pretty well, and we won most of our games, but slowly throughout the season, we started losing people because they started getting injured,” upper Natasha Lim said.Going into E/A, Big Red had two previous season losses against Andover, with one of them being in straight sets. Although the records might have been in their favor, Exeter’s JV volleyball team kept their spirits up and ended up earning the well-deserved victory.“We'd started this season off strong, but lost our momentum midseason, so we are super excited to end with such a big win,” lower Rebecca Ju said.Although the team’s overall record, 6-8, might not represent the best that Exeter has to offer, Ju believed that the season was full of exciting times, both on and off the court, with her teammates.“This season, we might not have a very good record, but there were a lot of close games where the other team really pushed us to play our best. I think our record might not be spectacular, but for the games we won, we had to fight for it, and for the games we lost, we still fought our best,” Ju said.Lim believed that the atmosphere of the team also contributed to the end-season success. “I played volleyball at my old school, and this season was very different because all of the students here are really nice and accepting. Especially during tryouts, I was kind of afraid, but they were all really encouraging.”
