Boys' Soccer Dominates Tabor for Shutout Win
MARION, MA - Exeter boys’ soccer snagged another win on Saturday, travelling down to Tabor Academy and returning with a victory. After racking up an explosive win on Wednesday against Tilton with five goals, the boys went down to Tabor looking for another W to continue their streak.Upper Ted Hart got Big Red rolling midway through the first half with a goal, with lower Trevor Cosgrove grabbing the assist. Upper Sterling Weatherbie scored off of a free kick, connecting on senior Logan Sandor’s great cross and driving the ball into the back of the net with his head to put Big Red up 2-0 by the end of the first half. Weatherbie ceded his usual free kick taking duties to Sandor for the game, and it paid dividends immediately. From that point on, the defense put on a spectacular performance, limiting the amount of scoring opportunities for the Sea Wolves.
Quintin DiStefano who have played well at outside back this season.”Using the energy of the 2-0 lead, the boys continued from where they left off, with Hart firing another shot into the net after a through ball from Weatherbie to give Big Red a comfortable 3-0 lead and plenty of power to control the game. His brother may have been the most prolific striker in Exeter history, but with two goals in each of the last three games, Ted Hart has been in deadly form and has helped give the team the energy they need to win games.“You can’t win if you don’t score,” Weatherbie said, “and I think Edward Hart has found his groove.”The boys held off the occasional Tabor offensive spell, keeping the game very one-sided and giving Big Red the easy 3-0 win. Upper Max Rerkpattinapipat thinks that energy and momentum had a lot to do with the reason behind their four-game winning streak.“We’ve been playing great on both sides of the field with very few mistakes,” Rerkpattinapipat said. “Our team is really talented. All we have to do right now is bring the energy and stay focused throughout the whole game.”With tough opponents on Saturday in Bridgton Academy and next week against KUA and, of course, the big game against Andover, Weatherbie thinks that the team needs to keep up the intensity and momentum to finish off the rest of the season strong, hopefully culminating in a November playoff run. Most importantly, the boys need to finish scoring opportunities.“We need to do what we've done the last three games. We need to come out real hard and continue to go 110% for 90 minutes each game,” Weatherbie said. “Rerkpattinapipat has given us a spark, starting each of the last three games. He goes as hard as he can for the first five minutes and it really gets us going, gives us so much energy.”Next up, the boys face off against Bridgton Academy under the lights at Phelps Stadium. The Bridgton team is currently 4-9-5 and will visit Exeter for the special “Support the Troops” game kicking off at 6 PM Saturday night.
